“Dan John Witherall is a Welsh screenwriter, born and raised in Pontypridd. His work tends to examine those on the fringes of society with wry humour and an irreverent, yet empathetic, eye.
His first feature film, Lost Creek, secured global distribution after a successful festival run in which it won a number of awards. His comedy short, Cunning Stunts, was helmed by a BAFTA-winning director. His horror short, Playtime, was produced under the mentorship of horror icon Brian Yuzna. His short fiction has been shortlisted for a number of awards, including the Bridport.
His other works have placed highly in a number of competitions, including BBC Writer’s Room & Open Call, and The Black List. He has also had two feature scripts optioned in recent years.Dan graduated with a distinction from his Creative Writing MA at Birmingham City University. He has also gained experience working as a script editor and running writing workshops at colleges and universities.
Outside of writing, he has held a successful career in construction health & safety for almost 20 years.
He currently resides in Birmingham, UK with his husband and their overly demanding cat.
