From 1987 until 2006 Laurence acted in various capacities for Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. This work included acting as International Music Supervisor on Cats, Starlight Express, The Phantom of the Opera and Aspects of Love. His orchestrations and arrangements feature in several Lloyd Webber projects including Sunset Boulevard.


As part of his association with Lord Lloyd Webber, Laurence has orchestrated and arranged several commercially successful recordings including: The Woman in White Suite released on EMI Records with the London Symphony Orchestra, The Choral Lloyd Webber with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Songs That Got Away with Sarah Brightman and The Phantom Fantasia with the London Symphony Orchestra, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.


Laurence has composed extensively for both the concert hall and stage and has enjoyed premieres at various international music festivals and concert venues including the Carnegie Hall. His oratorio Columba Canticles, commissioned to mark Derry/Londonderry’s status as UK City of Culture, was performed at Stormont Parliament buildings and broadcast by BBC Television. His opera Isabella and the Pot of Basil was featured at the Buxton Opera Festival and his musical Mates was staged at the Edinburgh Festival; both works transferred to London. His Vivian Elis Prize-winning musical: Ulysses – a Musical Odyssey toured Ireland and transferred to London’s Southbank. His critically acclaimed musical play about the life of Marlene Dietrich, Falling in Love Again, enjoyed premieres in the UK and Germany. Laurence provided the libretto for the Royal Opera House’s recent premiere: Least Like the Other.

Laurence lives in County Tyrone and recently retired from his post as Head of Composition at Ulster University, having suffered a stroke. FRA is placing his memoir  Restricted View – The Hidden Side of Showbiz with publishers.
