Dr Austen Morgan

Dr Austen Morgan is a barrister in London and Belfast and was one of the UUP’s lead negotiators for the Belfast Agreement. Austen was born in Northern Ireland. He is the author of: The Belfast Agreement: a practical legal analysis, London 2000; and Tony Blair and the IRA: the ‘on the runs’ scandal, London 2016; as well as biographies of Harold Wilson, Pluto Press 1992; and Ramsay MacDonald (Manchester University Press 1987).

“Austen Morgan has written an engaging, wide-ranging, thought-provoking and refreshingly undogmatic book on the history, current state and possible future of the UK constitution and system of government. Even those steeped in the subject will find interesting facts, connections and opinions which they will not have come across before. In these challenging times, anyone interested in the future of this country or how we got where we are should read this book”.

Lord Neuberger, President, Supreme Court, 2012-17.
